If it’s good enough for the royal family...

These conversions are done direct from Jaguar I think, which is cool. I don’t know, I see EV conversions as a way to keep some classics on the road in future years when parts availability starts to dry up. Not that the E-type will necessarily have that problem.

Someone ‘s hopped the door lines out?

It appears to be lacking exhaust pipes. So probably electric. It still looks as good as it ever did.

Right? If the doors/hood are all sealed up, why even have a door handle??

Door and bonnet lines removed from the electric concept zero . Should have removed the door handle, too.

I have thought about many years from now we may see units that go in classic engine bays. Probably battery tech will be better and smaller, one would think. People may not be able to go to a gas pump in some number of years, if humanity isn’t just wiped out I predict this will happen and only rich collectors will have petrol made and run them. If I’m still alive in fifty years I bet things will be different. I’m not for it now, we are still very lucky to have access to what we need, automobiles they way we think of them are a plip in history, it won’t be long till kids think of these as sailing ships like we look at horse and steam carriages. My cousin’s kids couldn’t understand hand crank windows....

Didn’t they drive that to the wedding? Or something, I remember seeing it. His dad let his brother borrow the cooler car.

I think it won’t be long before someone makes a SBC-sized and shaped battery pack, with a motor and reduction gearbox the size of, say, a PowerGlide.

That shit will fit in everything .

It is still a pretty car, but they put a digital dash in these. The digital dash replaces a dash which is every bit as appealing as that glorious exterior, and I think it looks terrible and very out of character in the “E” Jag.

I can understand the appeal of electric swapping classic cars, and it may be required someday if IC engines are eventually banned.....but the engine is part of what makes a lot of classic cars’ character, so it would ruin the experience (thinking of the 2CV, classic FIAT 500, anything with a V12, etc)

:(

Yeah it has to bolt up where the OE did, nobody wants to hurt the classic. But I guess it makes them all auto since there isn't really a reason to shift?

A lot of the aftermarket conversions I’ve seen are using lower-RPM industrial-style motors, that don’t ha ve a wide enough powerband to really get away with a single gear, so they do use multi-speed transmissions at times. (I’ve seen actual PowerGlides with the torque converter removed being used in front-engine RWD applications...)

Additionally, converting aircooled VWs and Porsches seems to be a thing, and there’s various reasons why you don’t want to engineer a new gearbox in a transaxle application (especially if you’re dealing with a swingaxle car), so converters seem to prefer leaving the existing gearbox in place, and just telling the customer to stick to 2nd and 3rd gears.

But, yeah, if you use a modern automotive motor, you don’t need a multi-speed gearbox at all, except for maximizing acceleration from a stop (and nowadays, in road applications, using multiple motors with different gearing seems to be the preferred way to get that effect, to avoid the issues with shifting).
